The objectives of the English course for general academic purposes concern written and communication skills in English that are required for study in formal education systems. The material of the specific course focuses on learning skills in English and specifically on learners practicing and familiarizing with a wide range of academic vocabulary as well as written and oral comprehension skills and speaking strategies.
This is accomplished through the use of authentic texts and the development of a combination of relevant tasks such as understanding lectures or taking notes but focuses mainly on academic discourse comprehension skills such as academic articles and texts, memory skills, learning strategies, use of academic vocabulary and academic grammar structures. It also uses a variety, relevant videos or relevant websites material and/or IT applications.
Finally, the course also introduces learners to research methods, the steps, content and philosophy under which it is implemented.
